Short Description: sailing school
Long Description: Sistership Sailing School in the British Virgin Islands offers couples, women and families the opportunity to learn the sport of sailing in a positive, relaxed supportive environment. Based on Tortola in the BVI, Sistership provides you with a unique vacation experience. Whether you wish to become competent crew, hope to captain your own boat someday or simply want to see what the world of sailing is all about, Sistership can help you realize your goal. Our liveaboard courses provide hands-on participatory learning experiences for the entire crew. In a typical week we visit up to seven islands mooring in a differenrt beautiful harbor each evening. In addition to our regular curriculum which includes boat handling under sail and power, navigation, anchoring , docking, boat systems and safety procedures there will be time to swim, snorkel, beachcomb and stargaze.
Sistership is a member school of the American Sailing Association and teaches their curriculum. We offer ASA certification at all levels from (101) Basic Keelboat Sailing through (106) Advanced Coastal Cruising.
Testimonials: Scottie and Bill - "I want you to know how much Bill and I appreciate your excellent sailing instruction. While we may not be the absolute best on the water, we are confident that we can plan for a fun and safe day, can get where we are going, are obeying the rules of the "road", ready for unexpected weather, parts failure, or personal injury, and we can just have a great time with the wind, waves and weather."
Janet - " We had a terrific time, thanks to your incredible energy, patience, and skill. We were lucky to be learning with you. I've been boasting about the course to everyone since coming back. And thanks for introducing us to the BVI and all those super places to eat!"
Jim and Madelyn - "We wanted to thank you again for being such a great instructor. As you saw yourself, Madelyn went from being unsure and fearful, to confident and enthusiastic. She really didn't think that she would pass the course, or that she could do what was required. She surprised herself, and felt that she had personally "grown" from the experience, and we have you to thank for it. She's still amazed with herself, and couldn't believe that she was actually disappointed that there was only enough wind to do 6 knots on the last day! We're looking forward to getting our boat into the water this spring (it's still snowing here), and working on the skills that you taught us, until they become routine. In another year or two, when we're ready to go to the next level, we will definately be contacting you for another course. You obviosly take great pleasure in teaching and in having your students succeed, and you know when to give encouragement and when to push. We have taken many similar courses (all with male instructors), and those qualities in one teacher is not common. I have always been enthusiastic about sailing, while Madelyn has been somewhat unsure and hesitant (even tho she has always enjoyed it), and without the confidence to handle a boat on our own. On the return trip however, she was ftrying to figure out how we could practice Med mooring in Lake Erie so that we wouldn't have to pass up a possible foltilla sail in the Mediteranean that had always appealed to her! Forgive me for going on so, but we wanted t let you know how much we appreciated and enjoyed our week with you."
Becky - " Pat, thank you for sharing/teaching me so much. It was the very best sailing I have ever experienced...I hope to come back sooner rather than later for the next level with you. You are a Gift!"
Eileen - "Congratulations it couldn't be more deserved. I found in you a natural
teacher. The calm and confidence you manage to hang onto while a
boatload of rookies chuck the hardware around is awe inspiring."
Joe and Linda - "I was the terrified, five foot nothing gal that you managed to bring around to an acceptable level of performance - and for that, I am still amazed and forever in your debt!
Now I am able to take pride in all that I did learn - and boy did I have a steep learning curve to climb from never having set foot in a boat to sailing a boat! Without your support, I'd never have come out of the fetal position and I'd never contemplate trying again. I am now at the stage of admitting that sailing skills are not an unattainable goal for me, that I can do this and do it well - with more help from you, of course, if you are willing to take us on again sometime in the near future. |
